Skillful DUI/DWI Representation Can Save Your Future

If you have been charged with a DUI or DWI, or if you are being investigated, you may feel hopeless. A conviction can mean a lost or suspended license, permanent record and jail time. However, you do not need to feel that way. As an experienced DUI/DWI lawyer, I know that these cases can be resolved favorably.

My name is Yvette Barrett, and as founding attorney of New Level Law Firm, PC, I work to solve my clients' DUI/DWI matters with efficiency and care. I know that there are many potential avenues to a favorable resolution of a DUI/DWI charge, including:

  • Dismissal of underlying offense
  • Not guilty
  • Settlement to a lesser offense

All of these are possible outcomes, especially for a first offense DUI. Cases that involve drinking and driving are frequently contested, because there are many ways the data can be incorrect or misinterpreted. Often, police officers and law enforcement don't have machines that are calibrated correctly, or they don't administer the test correctly. A good DWI defense attorney will ask these questions and work to use the answers to your advantage.

Know Your Rights

It is easy to act against your best interests when you are under investigation for drunk driving, impaired driving or driving under the influence, because it can be a scary experience, especially if it is your first time in this situation. You should know that in Michigan:

  • You don't have to submit to a field sobriety test. There is no law that requires it.
  • You should submit to a breath or chemical test. If you refuse, it is likely that you will lose your license.
  • You can request a blood draw. This is the most accurate form of a test and the results can help you.
  • You should tell the police about any medication you're on. Some medications might affect the reading, and you should tell them about it right away.

These are just a few common misconceptions I have encountered. To learn more, get in touch with me.
